Yoko Ono is a very influential artist, song writer, and poet. Her family moved between the US and Japan several times in her childhood, and she witnessed the Tokyo bombings as well as the aftermath of WWII in the US. This caused her to be part of several movements, such as world peace, feminism, and many others. She was considered radical for her time, and she often employed audience participation in her exhibits.

This was an interactive piece in which Ono asked the audience to cut pieces or her clothing until she was left naked. It was a commentary on Feminism as well as a metaphor of stripping herself of materialism.

Her "Yes" piece very famously got the attention of Lennon. It made participants climb the ladder, use the magnifying glass, and read the word 'Yes', which Ono wrote herself.

She married twice before she met John Lennon, who went to an early preview of one her exhibits and was instantly fascinated by her work.  They had an affair until Lennon was able to divorce his wife, and then they married. They collaborated on many pieces in many medias; when they were on their honeymoon they turned their hotel room into a World Peace exhibit.

Even after Lennon's death, Ono continues to write off-Broadway musicals, poems, Top Chart music, and interactive exhibits. She was even invited to Istanbul, Turkey, to display her "Ex-It" piece, which features trees growing out of coffins.
